A customer had a very old, dirty, Maple school writing desk. They wanted it transformed into a beautiful coffee table. I cleaned and flattened it significantly but left some faded original school scuffs, scratches. The stand out, unique feature is the end-grain branches artistically resigned into the top. Yew on the left, Laburnum on the right with oak legs.
Perhaps the picture doesn't quite do it justice but the pine frame has been torched, heavily wire brushed to give it a deep textured, tactile feel to the grain. Then sanded smooth but keeping the grain contours, died black and woven tight with contrasting white shaker fabric weave.

Burr Elm is got to be one of my favourite woods in the world, stunning grain and local but rare. I hand carved the handle from thick solid Burr Elm. The drawer runs on soft close ball baring runners. Drawer base was given an optical illusion effect using advanced veneering techniques. The legs are compound angled and chard for texture. A fun detail on the table top I dropped a scuba diver in a naturally occurring pocket, filled with resign.
